Following the deaths of two young women due to childbirth complications, two bereaved families galvanize activists, birth workers, and physicians to reckon with one of the most pressing American crises today: the US maternal health crisis. Michael captured interviews with the main contributors to help cohere storylines across the film. Inspired by royal portraits across cultures, he worked with co-directors Paula Eiselt and Tonya Lewis Lee to construct interview frames that will lift up the voices featured in the film.
