Michael Crommett is a Peabody Award winning and Emmy and PGA Award nominated filmmaker and cinematographer who produced and lensed Max/Discovery+’s UNPRECEDENTED and Facebook Watch’s HUMANS OF NEW YORK: THE SERIES among many other credits. The former of which contains exclusive footage Michael shot in the last months of the Trump presidency including January 6th, 2021 and was later subpoenaed by Congress.
As a Latino filmmaker Michael strives to tell unifying narratives about the diaspora, including in GOING VARSITY IN MARIACHI and the second season of LEGUIZAMO DOES AMERICA premiering in July 2025. He was also selected as part of the 2024 DOC NYC 40 Under 40 Cohort.
His latest release is PHOTOGRAPHER, a National Geographic/Disney+ Peabody Award winning docuseries executive produced by Academy Award Winners Jimmy Chin and Chai Vasarhelyi, which features three episodes with Michael’s cinematography. The episode solely shot by Michael, DAN WINTERS: LIFE IS ONCE, FOREVER, was nominated for an American Society of Cinematographers Award.
Under the mentorship of Marco Williams at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, Michael developed a love for documentary film. This led him on a journey that has included chasing storms in the Midwest, filming traditional tattoo ceremonies in Japan, and showing life on and off the basketball court in the Navajo Nation.
Other projects Michael has lensed include the Sundance award winning films AFTERSHOCK (Sundance 2022) and KOSHIEN: JAPAN’S FIELD OF DREAMS (DOC NYC 2019).
